Are You Choosing Empowerment?

Choice is a function of expanded awareness. Whether you are aware of it or not, you choose every thought you think and that choice determines your attitude. When you are not choosing consciously you are reacting with unconscious habit patterns.

Whenever you react, you are letting another person’s attitude affect your own, blaming what’s happening outside of you, the person or situation. Responding is a conscious choice where you take responsibility for yourself and thoughts and actions.

There are two basic attitudes: a negative attitude and a positive attitude.

A negative attitude is due to unconscious habit patterns of thought that cause you to react in certain ways. A negative attitude is disempowering. It impedes relationships, growth and creating, as it is a disintegrating force. It is an abandonment of your true self, a belief that something is somehow wrong with you – that you are, in some way, not enough.

The formula for a negative attitude:

Externally Referenced in Doubt   +   Worry   >  Fear   +   Anxiety   =   Disempowerment /  Negative Attitude

The formula for a positive attitude:

Internally Referenced in Trust + Sufficiency  >   Fearless   +   Inner Peace    =   Empowerment / Positive Attitude

A positive attitude is due to conscious awareness of thought that causes you to respond to the person and situation in real time, free from thoughts and emotions of the past or the future. A positive attitude is empowering. Through a positive attitude you learn to appreciate yourself more. When you choose gratitude and appreciation for your inner resources, you choose a positive attitude… choose self acceptance. It brings a great-fullness within that releases fear, provides inner peace, and an empowering way of being in the world. It brings a sense-of-self that you do not have when in doubt and worry.

If you find yourself in a disempowered, negative attitude, self-acceptance and forgiveness facilitate movement to a more empowering, positive attitude. This is a very important part of choosing to be internally referenced. Self-acceptance and forgiveness also bring about a great-fullness within that contributes to a sense of sufficiency, because this is in essence being grateful for who you are and what you have to offer the world. This sense of sufficiency is what maintains an internal empowering perspective. Living systems are naturally creative, growth oriented and integrating forces that build relationships. Acceptance and forgiveness power the creative process by releasing the energy that has been misguided into disempowering thoughts and emotions.

Before you go and judge yourself about having a negative disempowering attitude about something you need to understand that it is part of the process. Since we live in duality there are two sides to everything. In order to know one side, you must know the other. You cannot know that you have inner peace unless you know doubt, worry and anxiety. You cannot know fearlessness unless you know fear. They are two sides of the same thing, and they just are what they are.
